A couple of weeks ago I helped photographer, Skip Baumhower from Tuscaloosa as he volunteered to photograph the animals at our local animal shelter. When he called to ask, the task fell on a day that was already crazy and full of plans. I had to be in Birmingham that morning at 8:30 a.m to pick up my car that was being serviced and then had to drive an hour back to Clanton and get all of my equipment packed and ready to leave for a wedding that was the following day in Atlanta. Besides packing all the camera gear, I still had to pack my clothes, pick up the kids from school and pick up another photographer that would be traveling to Atlanta with me. It was a day full of running to say the least and even though I didn’t think I could fit anything else into that day, I felt like I couldn’t say “no” to the request to help at the Humane Society. So, I drove to Birmingham that morning and then drove straight back to the shelter. I am so glad that I didn’t say no. I only got to spend about two hours at the shelter. Even though it was a small amount of time, it really gave me the chance to see that there are so many animals who are so cute and so loving and they just want someone to love and care for them. For them, finding a home will mean that they don’t have to face the inevitable choice that is too frequently made when someone doesn’t take them. I will be helping to take over the project in the future so watch for updates on new animals available for adoption. I hope that the slideshow will touch your heart and motivate you to help these animals who need a home and just want and need to be loved. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this and give much thanks to Skip for not only including me but having such a huge heart to do this.
